Shortcuts: end of the slope for Ski 2; Cheval Blanc finally opens in Paris

Italy Ski 2, a British tour operator specializing in ski holidays in the Italian village of Champoluc, has announced its closure after 22 years. The company, headquartered in Winchester but with a year-round base in Champoluc, said continued uncertainty over Covid-related travel restrictions, as well as difficulties in employing British staff in Italy after Brexit , left “no other choice but to close the business for good.” The closure will be a blow for frequent customers but also for the village, where Ski 2 has been a model of good practice, using a network of local suppliers and deeply integrated into the community.

It is the latest UK ski company to pull out during the pandemic, joining others including Powder N Shine, Ski Amis and Project Ski. However, some operators are now expressing cautious optimism, pointing to strong demand for the coming winter. EasyJet was already marketing London-Geneva return flights during the February semester for more than £ 1,150, baggage not included.

Paris Le Cheval Blanc, the highly anticipated new flagship of the luxury group LVMH, finally opened its doors this week on the banks of the Seine. The 72-room hotel, originally slated for launch in 2018, is part of La Samaritaine, the listed Art Nouveau department store that reopened in June after 16 years of a € 750 million renovation by LVMH.

The interiors of the hotel were designed by New York architect Peter Marino; the company claims that every piece of furniture was custom made. There are four restaurants, including a brasserie on the seventh floor with a terrace offering stunning views of the city. Double rooms cost from € 1,150 per night.
