Can you take a direct train to the Alps this season?

[ad_1]

The question of whether a direct ski train service would connect London to the French Alps was settled this month with the announcement that a new Travelski An express service will arrive in Bourg Saint Maurice every Saturday morning during the ski season, having left London on Friday evening, from December 18th.

Daytime returns will be offered on Saturdays from Bourg Saint Maurice and Moûtiers, non-stop, to London-Saint Pancras.

This is good news for the French station of Les Arcs, for example, as it means that it is once again accessible directly from London by train. Arrived by Travelski Express in Bourg, it is a simple 7 minute funicular ride to Arc 1600, which allows skiers to be on the slopes that morning!

However, although the new service is provided by Eurostar from its terminal in St Pancras, the Travelski Express is in fact a charter train and can only be booked through Travelski, a wholly owned subsidiary of the French company Compagnie des Alpes.

Travlski will offer the service in the form of a package, including transport, transfers, accommodation and ski passes in six resorts managed by the CdA – La Plagne, Les Arcs, Tignes, Val d’Isère, Méribel, Les Menuires.

While these are some of the largest resorts in the Alps, some important ski areas are excluded from this package, such as Courchevel and Val Thorens in the 3 Valleys.

Yariv Abehsera, Mountain Director of CdA, commented: “Travelski Express is first and foremost the group’s unique initiative to open a direct high-speed train service from Great Britain to Compagnie des Alpes mountain stations and towards the French Alps. Travelski Express also symbolizes our interest in our foreign customers. Distributed exclusively on the Travelski site, this unique offer strengthens its international dynamic and contributes to winning over new customers for the French destination. ‘
