Meanwhile, her older sister Millie, eight, was relishing the return to the slopes. “I had no idea Bulgaria was a ski destination and it was wonderful,” Peter shared. “Initially we were going to France, but entry requirements prevented us as Junior was unable to get his second vaccination in time.

“We had to find an alternative and I’m very grateful that we did. Bulgaria was amazing – the people, the food, the place and of course the skiing. We will definitely be back.”

In addition to skiing, the family took advantage of everything the resort has to offer, from horseback riding to sledding, and they also enjoyed a Valentine’s Day meal together.

The snow vacation is a far cry from the popular entertainer’s childhood holidays with his parents, sister and four brothers in Cyprus and Australia, where the family moved when Peter was just six years old.

He recalls that his “school holidays as a child were always based on the sun. Basically the sun, the beaches, the smell of suntan oil and ice cream. That’s how I remember our holidays “.

Peter and Emily love spending quality family time and recommend a ski vacation as a special bonding experience. Peter’s advice to anyone considering hitting the slopes for the first time is “do it, do it, do it”.

He explains, “Go as a family; it’s such a great bonding experience because you’re doing activities together. The kids can learn on the kids’ trails, you can all learn – even the adults. That’s how we learned – on green runs.

“It’s really a special holiday. You eat together, you ski together and you laugh because someone falls but you all encourage each other to do better. Then you go and do something like go sledding together. There there’s so much you can do.”

The Andres were guests of Crystal Ski Holidays and spent a week in the Balkan resort of Borovets at Hotel Rila. For more information on skiing in Bulgaria, go to
