Black Friday on Tuesday, tree lighting game | News, Sports, Jobs https://sports-lesarcs.com/2021/11/20/black-friday-on-tuesday-tree-lighting-game-news-sports-jobs/ Sat, 20 Nov 2021 08:01:41 +0000 https://sports-lesarcs.com/2021/11/20/black-friday-on-tuesday-tree-lighting-game-news-sports-jobs/

Daily press archive photo The annual Escanaba Christmas tree lighting ceremony is illustrated in this archive photo. The annual event will take place on Tuesday, as well as Black Friday on Tuesday, a commercial event in downtown Escanaba from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

ESCANABA – Holiday shoppers will be able to get an early start on their gift lists on Tuesday, November 23 when the Black Friday on Tuesday shopping event in downtown Escanaba returns for its 12th year. The Escanaba Christmas tree lighting ceremony will follow later in the night.

Tuesday Black Friday is typically the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, but this year the festivities will kick off earlier, with downtown businesses running in-store promotions from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“If they want to avoid the crowds at night, they can come during the day. that sort of pushes people aside, which is good ”, said Lisa Lalonde of Lisa Ann Boutique, who is president of Downtown Partners in Business. The Downtown Partners in Business is organizing the event with the support of the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority.

More than 20 local businesses are participating in the event, many of which are offering store-wide discounts ranging from 10% to 30% off regular prices. Some stores also offer additional discounts of up to 50% on selected items.

While shopping can take place throughout the day, much of the excitement will start after 4pm. Meanwhile, local businesses will provide snacks and drinks for customers, and horse-drawn wagon rides – sponsored by Dominic Benetti and Chris Sauve of Great Lakes Wealth Advisors – will help make commuting on Ludington Street more fun for the buyers.

In addition to the sales that take place throughout the day, buyers will have another way to profit from the event. In each store, customers will be able to participate in a draw for a $ 25 gift card for the store they are visiting. Once all of the individual stores have chosen their winners, the remaining entries will be placed into a grand draw for $ 250 worth of “Downtown dollars” offered by Embers Credit Union which can be used throughout downtown. Visiting more stores and participating in more individual drawings increases the chances of winning the jackpot.

Whether or not shoppers win an award, Lalonde described the evening as an enjoyable evening of shopping, drinks and dining before the holiday chaos.

“The family (who) is coming for Thanksgiving hasn’t arrived yet, so you don’t have that.” It’s not the day before Thanksgiving, so they’re not busy cooking. So it’s kind of a free night before the storm with all this busy stuff ”, said Lalonde.

As in years past, shoppers can round off the evening by heading to Central Court, directly opposite the DDA building at 1025 Ludington St., for the city’s Christmas tree lighting at 7 p.m.

In addition to the DDA, this year’s Black Friday on Tuesday event is sponsored by the Northern Insurance Agency; Connection services in the United States; Premier Real Estate; Garceau insurance agency; Schneider, Larche & Haapala & Co.; and Riverside Auto Group.

Participating companies include Canterbury Bookstore, UP North Specialties, Lisa Ann, UP North Roast, KCL Embroidery & Kreations, North Coast Apparel, Jim’s Music, Sayklly’s Confectionery & Gifts, Nails of Chic, SignUP Graphics, East Ludington Gallery, Northern Screen Printing, Refine Skin & Wellness, Nyman’s Jewelers, Habillage, T&T True Value Hardware, The Grateful Cheese, Sherlock and Key Escape Room, The Morrison Shop, Mr. Bike and Ski, For the Love of Cupcakes, The Ludington Grill, Pioneer TV & Appliance, and wishful thinking.

BRITS desperate to escape for a well-deserved break face a holiday nightmare in Europe – as teens risk being banned from restaurants and hotels.

The vast majority of young British people between the ages of 12 and 17 receive only one inoculation.

But countries like France, Austria and Germany say only people with two vaccines – or people who can prove they have had the virus before – will be able to use the places of recreation.

This means that adolescents will not be recognized as ‘vaccinated’ by EU countries where young people receive both vaccines.

The Netherlands is expected to be among the countries where single children will be banned from restaurants, pubs, clubs, ski facilities and other attractions.

However, France is currently proposing that unvaccinated tourists – including teenagers – be allowed access to these places if they have a negative Covid test taken within 72 hours of their visit.

Providing proof of a negative test will be an additional burden on families who need a break.

A senior travel industry source told The Telegraph: “Families with teenagers may be able to enter these countries, but they might have problems getting into the places.

“Some countries may allow you to take tests, but others don’t.

“The rules are changing as we speak. It is very difficult to keep track of what you can do where.

“It reflects the difference between what UK medical advisers say and what EU medical advisers say. What should the government be sticking with?

“The government should take a close look at its immunization programs.

NIGHTMARE FOR BRITISH

“They may be medically adequate, but it also has to be about facilitating a normal life, which includes taking your children abroad to ski or visit the Louvre. Is it still possible? ”

Paul Charles, managing director of travel consultancy The PC Agency, said: “We are seeing other countries introduce tougher rules for those who don’t have two jabs or a recall.

“It is starting to discourage people from traveling to certain countries.

“The UK government’s health policy is restricting families. “

On Thursday, France became the last country to add boosters to its Covid pass for entry to sites, starting with those over 65 from December 15.

Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia and Israel have set validity periods for vaccinations.

This means travelers who were part of the first wave of Britons to be vaccinated will need to have received the booster.

How a Portuguese fishing village tamed a 100-foot wave https://sports-lesarcs.com/2021/10/31/how-a-portuguese-fishing-village-tamed-a-100-foot-wave/ https://sports-lesarcs.com/2021/10/31/how-a-portuguese-fishing-village-tamed-a-100-foot-wave/#respond Sun, 31 Oct 2021 21:40:56 +0000 https://sports-lesarcs.com/2021/10/31/how-a-portuguese-fishing-village-tamed-a-100-foot-wave/

As the waves of Nazaré are more dangerous than any other surf spot in the world, according to Von Rupp, these feats were only made possible thanks to the implementation of the strictest safety regime in history. surfing on big waves.

In addition to the jet ski pilot, who places the surfer on the wave, the teams authorized to surf in Nazaré during a big swell must also include a spotter equipped with a radio which informs the pilot of the surfer’s location. “When you’re in the living water you don’t know where something is, you’re just trying to survive,” said Salvador, who was in charge of security when McNamara landed in Portugal in 2010. There’s also a second lifeguard on a jet ski, and a third in the great days.

Even then the reality is you can die, says Joana Andrade, the only Portuguese woman to ride the big waves of Nazaré. She prepared for eight months before her first attempt in 2013, a process that involved physical and spiritual training such as visualization and breathing techniques. “You can have the physical body super well prepared, but it’s your mind that is going to save you if things go wrong,” she explained. According to Von Rupp, some surfers are pondering their own drowning. “You have to be prepared not to panic if you are about to pass out, because that’s when you open your mouth and let out all your oxygen. Your best chance for survival is to stay calm. “

If the worst happens, the responsibility rests with the first jet ski operator. For Von Rupp and Andrade, it is Sergio Cosme, who has become “the guardian angel of Nazaré”. “If you practice something 100 times, it becomes automatic,” he told me. “At that moment there are so many worries in your head and in the case of security you have to be able to do things automatically and minimize the time of all the procedures because you only have a few seconds to do them. . “

But years of training don’t guarantee a successful rescue, which Cosme struggles to talk about. Last year, his friend, Portuguese big wave surfer Alex Botelho, lost consciousness between the waves and stopped breathing for 10 minutes before being rescued by his partner Hugo Vau and revived on the beach. “Someday the worst could happen, and it will be really hard to deal with,” Cosme said.
